Madison, WI based weather data and detection startup chosen for hardware acceleration program
MADISON, WI and BOSTON, MA, 6 August 2013, Subsidence, Inc., a developer of next generation weather sensor hardware and data networks, has been accepted to the inaugural class of Bolt–a six-month, intensive accelerator program designed to spur the growth of new hardware-based technology businesses. The Bolt program will provide Subsidence with a package of financial investment, access to world-class prototyping and manufacturing facilities, 24/7 access engineering and design staff, and business and technical mentoring from a panel of world-class experts.
Subsidence founder and CEO Alex Kubicek said, “My partner Bryan Dow and I are thrilled to have been chosen from the field of applicants to join the Bolt class of 2013. This is a unique opportunity that will give Subsidence the resources to grow across multiple disciplines. The technical and business expertise the Bolt team provides is going to help us deliver a better solution and execute on our business goals faster.”
Subsidence generates real-time, localized, weather data, powered by a dense grids of patent-pending, next generation weather stations. The hardware designed by Subsidence detects rain, hail, winds and other weather events directly at the Earth’s surface where the risk to life and property is greatest, a marked enhancement over traditional detection which takes place in the atmosphere. The information collected by Subsidence is analyzed and processed to create real-time datasets and views of the movement and intensity of weather events to provide better insight and early detection of risks.
“The selection process was extremely competitive,” said Ben Einstein, Bolt CEO. “Response to our call for applications over the past three months surpassed even our most optimistic expectations with more than 850 entries. Of those, we have selected seven companies as part of our first enrollment of the inaugural 2013 class. They represent sectors ranging from consumer electronics to robotics to medical devices. Five are B2B. There are three companies that have already raised capital and two that are on track to hit $1M of revenue in 2013.”
